PressReader Review

I missed yesterday's app review but today I have your review.

Look and Feel
The PressReader app is a very good app. It's not nearly as good as the other apps I've shown you in the past few days. The interface is clean and simple. It's not cluttered but there could have been a better way to organize your newspaper listings. On the main screen, you will see a list of newspapers that you can tap on to download. You're able to access many news papers from across the entire world. To access this functionality, just tap on the Store button on the top left and select your designated country and preferred newspaper. Some countries have listings for hundreds of papers.   Tapping on a downloaded paper will carry you into the main reader interface. It's simple and basically fool proof. Pinch-to-zoom gestures work but there is only one zoom setting. That's right folks, it's just zoom all the way in or all the way out(for those with super vision). To switch the page you, naturally, swipe from the right to left.  Also, text appears very well and there is no choppiness in the images.

Performance
Performance is disappointing. This is one of those apps that will jerk and stutter. Sometimes, I may tap somewhere and I don't know if I should tap it again or close the app because it just either stops responding or goes to an empty black screen with nothing in it. I would've expected better but it isn't a big name app like say, Zinio. Things take too long to open or move where it's supposed to. I know it isn't the Touchpad because other apps(USA Today, I'm looking at you) don't perform this way. If you've read my review on that app, you could get the hint that the Touchpad isn't the problem. Having 1.2GHz of Dual Core prowess isn't just for show, you know. Better start getting to use those two cores the way it's supposed to.

Reviewdev's Rating:
6/10. The performance wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. There could've also been improvements to the user interface to make it more efficient and use the screen space more effectively. Tapping on things don't show the responsiveness that a tablet with a dual core processor and a full GB of RAM should show.
