Windows Phone Marketplace hits 50,000 apps!

windows-phone-7-marketplace

What a good holiday season for Microsoft this year. All About Windows Phone reported earlier today that Windows Phone 7 Marketplace has reached the 50,000 app milestone. This number is the published number and does NOT reflect how many apps are available in your neighborhood.

It took 14 months for the OS to reach this milestone. In comparison, Android took 19 months and iOS took exactly 1 year. The store is also adding an average of 265 apps per day. This should be encouraging to future smartphone users/upgraders and developers like myself.

Microsoft has taken measure to discourage app store spammers and even with efforts Marketplace has still grown at an incredible rate. Now let's watch out for the next 50,000 which should come faster.

Now would be the time to check out those ridiculously cheap unlocked first-generation Windows Phones at Amazon.
